Begin Your Quest

Each week will have an intro page for teachers.  This overview provides a snapshot of the week's learning highlights, a weekly supplies list, and a little humor (or so we think).  Courses designed for younger students include a weekly assignment checklist for teachers, while older students are offered more of an open-n'- go approach.

Level Up!

As fellow home educators, we know you don't get enough credit for

all the hours spent searching for ways to make learning more fun:

videos, projects, art, and recipes.  That's why we've done all the

hard work for you!

"Cool Teacher Moments" highlight on-theme, on-topic suggestions just for teachers.  These "surprise" gestures bring a little extra magic to your week.  For example, printable scavenger hunts, getting into character, or special treats that will wow your learners and get them interested!

"Magic Makers" are another weekly feature in the Luminar Curriculum.  These optional enrichments bring added value to the week's learning topics with deeper-dive projects and activities for students.

Our Story

Is Pretty Magical

Get to Know Us

Once upon a time, in a small town in North Carolina, a young girl wandered through a garden of daffodils.  Her fingertips danced along the blooms, tickling each one she touched.  Above, the sun peeked through the canopy of towering ancient trees, warming her skin.  The soil, soft beneath her bare feet, lay a clear path from one end of her grandmother's garden to the other, where the crooked fence gate slouched from its hinges.  Twirling and twirling her red skirt until she became dizzy, the silly girl doubled over in a laughing fit. Finally, catching her breath, she spotted a fresh blossom along her path.  "I will protect you," she whispered to the flowers, and cradled a fragile sunlit bud between two fingers.  It was in this moment, the child was filled with wonder and magic, and a love for all things beautiful.

That child was me, Crystal, the founder of Luminara School of Wonder. It is with this same imagination, curiosity, and joy that I create curriculum for my children, and yours.   A day in my homeschool is anything but boring, ever since I embarked on this journey more than ten years ago.  File cabinets overflowing with American Presidents and Darwin's Finches were the result of a mom eager to offer a secular education at home to two daughters, six years apart in age.  At the time, and still today, there were few secular learning solutions outside of public school, and so began my days of scouring bookshops and libraries, and typing out worksheets until my fingers cramped.

It wasn't until a few fellow moms and friends said, "Hey, you should sell this," that the idea to share my passion ignited.  I had already advanced two older children through high school with a public education, and at this point, I had three at home.   Homeschooling them was always a dream; that same little girl who plucked her grandmother's weeds used to station all of her dollies as students, and force them to play "school."  Despite being completely enamored by our homeschool life, and producing something wonderful and fun for my own children, the idea to market the product, just hadn't crossed my mind... until, well, it did.

I can't help but acknowledge the growth our family has had over all these years.  When I first started out, I doubted my ability to educate at home more times than I care to admit.  Yet, year after year, the children laughed, explored, experienced fantastical things, and continued to test at advanced grade levels.  My background is in business and marketing, but my heart is in education, and that is where I found this passion project.

I believe that there are other parents, just like me, who fall into a cycle of boredom, or that hole where slow living begins to feel too mundane.  Moms, like me, who still believe in the ideas that once sparked their passion for learning, teaching, and homeschooling.  So, from the little girl who would spin herself dizzy, to the mom who creates innovative learning solutions, allow me to offer you more: more learning, more magic, more fun, and perhaps a little more tea to go along with that!
